Do Backends Need Product Managers?
Do backends need product managers? In this talk, I will cover the following main topics: backend teams’ priority struggles, data sources for backend product people, and the concept of mission teams applied to backend teams.
I will explain how a (technical) product manager can help a backend or infrastructure team, and which business metrics such teams traditionally influence. Finally, I will argue that the backend should often be treated as a product in its own right.
I will also provide practical examples of impactful product decisions that were made based on working with these teams, and the metrics they own.
