From Vision to Reality -or How You Can Ensure that R&D Delivers What You Want
Have you ever heard of failed development projects? Did the product prove to be too expensive in production? Has it been over engineered? Was the usability or the design not as expected? Was the product exposed to too much competition?
There are many things that can go wrong on the way from a brilliant idea or vision to an industrialized product. I had the pleasure of accompanying the idea of a lighting system for a designer furniture system through all phases. We had to deal with the legacy, scout for technology, work out business scenarios, design, run trials, and we failed. We had to come up with new ideas, align the team and challenge the technology.
In the end, we had to horse trade between technical feasibility, design, usability and cost. A systematic approach proved to be powerful as a “fil rouge”, but the mixed team with different professional backgrounds added the essential spice.
