Find and Follow Your North Star KPI
After the 2nd financing round at TestingTime we doubled the team within a few months. New PMs, User Researchers, etc. joined the team. With all this new talent on board we weren’t prepared in terms of direction and priorities. We drove into a storming era. To counter-fight this, we looked into tools/processes to realign the entire team. We brainstormed a North Star KPI, one measurement, which told us how well we succeed. A North Star should not just show revenue or any other binary measurement. It should represent your companies growth success. For us it came down to “Number of successful sessions”. Using this KPI, we manage to realign the entire product team and organization on a weekly basis. We will talk about the entire journey, how we came up with the North Star, how we use it and what the pros and cons are compared to other tools.
