Inside Atlassian’s Product to Platform Transition
At Atlassian we’re on a multi-year journey to platformize common features in Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, and Trello. That means we’re building features as services that can be used across all of our products, for example: accounts & login, text editing, user profiles, and even Jira issues.
I’ve had the opportunity to manage both Platform and Product teams and have seen the natural tensions that platformization brings, as well as the huge benefits. In this talk, I’ll take you through the emotional stages of platformization based on our stories, and I’ll give my recommendations for how we as product leaders can successfully manage the collaboration between product and platform.
