Re-Platform and Re-Design Together: a Competitive Advantage
“Most companies, and most Product Managers face it at some point: re-platforming. Being a technical effort at its core, the product management part of it can be complicated and perceived as somewhat limited. On the contrary, a re-platforming effort is a great chance for product managers to turn it into a competitive advantage and deliver great user and business value at the same time.
I will share 2 practical experiences, or “war stories”, from my past and current roles.
The first one is about ricardo.ch, the leading swiss online marketplace, where a re-platforming of the apps together with a complete overhaul of the mobile user journey led to a 40% conversion rate increase. Building up confidence in steps, end learnings from past failures were key to this success.
The second one is about Beekeeper, a scale-up in the field of frontline workforces, where we need to re-platform our systems for growth, and want to scale the product to enable more use cases – doing them together is complicated, and a huge competitive advantage on time-to-market.”
